Rape case in Thrissur:Govt to undertake victim’s treatment cost  

Thiruvananthapuram, Saturday, February 05, 2011: State Health Minister PK Sreemathy today said that the Government will undertake the treatment costs of Sowmya, a 23 year old woman who had been raped after she was pushed out of a running train on Tuesday night.

Sreemathy has sent a letter to the Union demanding that Centre should take necessary steps to safeguard the securities of women passengers traveling in train.

Meanwhile, the condition of the women has deteriorated further on Saturday.

Govinda Swami, the accused entered the women’s compartment of the train, in which the victim was travelling alone, from the Vallathol Nagar railway station.

The Police said that Govinda Swami tried to nab the woman’s bag. The woman resisted the attack and ran to the end of the compartment to escape him. Govinda Swami pushed her out of the train and she fell down with her head banging on the rock. He also jumped out of the train, along with her and raped the severely injured woman.
