Thrissur, Thursday 16 Oct 2008: In case of Rice the state will not become self-reliant in the near future, Chief Minister V S Achuthanandan said after inaugurating Food Security Project here on Thursday.
Speaker K Radhakrishnan, minister K P Rajendran, Mullakkara Ratnakaran were also attended the function
The state produce only 1/5 of the total need , so the production must be raised, he said.It is the central government which has been promoting black marketing and as a part of their agenda the centre had denied the share of rice towards the state.

If all of us try, if educated people of Kerala realise the importance of paddy culture , then it is possible to raise the rice production in the state. Let us decide to give a regular income to our paddy farmers, then more people will start paddy cultivation and we can move towards self reliance. Let us have a collective will to achieve this , beyond all our political affiliation , religion and caste. Farmers’ dignity has to be brought back. Let educated people become farmers and let us move towards reclaiming our culture and our sovereignty.
