Kannur, Monday, August 30, 2010: State PWD minister M Vijaya Kumar today told that a sum of Rs 1048 crore would be spent for renovating roads in Kerala in four months. Speaking to media persons after a review meeting with officials of six districts here, he said patchwork on badly damaged roads would be completed by September and major resurfacing works by December.
All roads which are five years old would be resurfaced even if there is no damage to it, he said. An amount of Rs 330 crore would be spent on work on National Highways, Rs 365 crore on PWD roads and Rs 353 crore on District Panchayat roads, he said.
He said the Finance Inspection Wing would review road works and there would be a review meeting every week. Executive Engineers review meeting will be held once every two weeks, Chief engineers once a month and the minister would convene a meeting once in every month, he said.
Emphasising the need to improve the pathetic conditions of the roads, he said rain was proving a dampener to the patchworks job. The minister said tender works would be made transparent and e-tendering will be implemented soon.
