Rousing reception for Thiruvonathoni at Aranmula  

Pathanamthitta, Monday, August 23, 2010: Thiruvonathoni, the temple vessel carrying provisions, vegetables for the Onam feast at Sree Parthsarathy Temple at Aranmula, was accorded a rousing reception at the temple ghats on Monday morning. The vessel had set off on the ceremonial procession from Kattoor, near Kozhencherry, on Sunday.

Hundreds of devotees thronged the temple ghats to witness the annual event. The decorated Thiruvonathoni, accompanied by a group of snake-boats (‘palliyodams’) reached the temple ghats at daybreak. As is customary, the eldest member of the Brahmin family of Mangattu Illom at Kumaranalloor, near Kottayam, M.R. Narayana Bhattathiri, escorted the temple vessel from Kattoor Maha Vishnu Temple to Aranmula.
