Thiruvananthapuram, Monday 01 June 2009: Special assemblies and free distribution of textbooks, schoolbags and umbrellas will mark ‘Praveshanotsavam,’ an event organised in schools across the State on the first day of every academic year to welcome children in class 1, in the district on Monday.

This year the State-level proceedings will be inaugurated at Peerumedu, Idukki, by M.A. Baby, Minister for Education. The inaugural session will be marked by a cultural procession attended by nearly 500 children, including 300 new recruits to class I.

The procession will begin from the C.P.M. Government Higher Secondary School, Peerumedu, and wind up at the S.M.S. Club and library hall near the school, said N. Rajan, deputy director, Directorate of Public Instruction.

In Thiruvanathapuram, ‘Praveshanotsavam’ will be formally inaugurated at the Government Upper Primary School, Pothencode, by Minister for Food and Civil Supplies C. Divakaran at 9 a.m. The occasion will also mark the launch of a school bus for the children of the school.
