Chennai, Thursday 13 August 2009: Union Home Minister P Chidambaram said all measures were in place to ensure that the Independence Day celebrations passed off peacefully across the country.

“We have alerted all the states and every state is prepared. We will ensure that the Independence Day passes off peacefully in every state,” he told reporters here on the sidelines of a railway function.
The Home Ministry had earlier warned that terrorists could target Delhi, Kolkata and Hyderabad on the eve of Independence Day and asked all the states and union territories to maintain a tight vigil especially along the coastal areas which may be used by Pakistan-based militant outfit Lashker-e-Taiba to infiltrate.
