Shoranur, Tuesday, January 13, 2009:The Swearing in ceremony of nine Janakeeya Vikasana Samiti members including MR Murali will begin here just a while from now.
Last month the eight members of Janakiya Vikasana Samithi (JVS) who had trounced the CPM candidates in the by-election to the Shornur Municipality in Palakkad had met Chief Minister V S Achuthanandan to seek his help to make way for their swearing-in.
Janakiya Vikasana Samiti led by MR Murali had won the by-elections to the Shornur municipality, which was considered as the strong forte of CPM, maintaining its hold for over eight years causing a huge embarrassment to the ruling CPM.
The by-elections were necessitated by the resignation of nine CPI (M) councillors following factional feud in the party.
The CPI (M) had expelled local leader and vice-chairman of the Shoranur Municipality M.R. Murali for allegedly not complying with a party directive to quit the post early this year.
Offering support to Mr. Murali, eight more councillors resigned from the council. Mr. Murali, who was identified with a group loyal to Chief Minister V.S. Achuthanandan, floated a new party, Janakeeya Vikasana Samithi.
