Sonia to be re-elected Cong president for 4th term

New Delhi, Thursday 02 September 2010: Congress president Sonia Gandhi will accept her re-nomination to the president’s post on Thursday between 11 am and 3 pm at her 10 Janpath residence.

Top Congress leaders from all states will present her the nomination papers for acceptance. These papers will be then submitted to the election authority, and the next day, she will come to the party headquarters to receive the certificate of election, Congress general secretary Janardan Dwivedi said.

Maharashtra chief minister Ashok Chavan and other senior leaders arrived here on Wednesday to participate in the party president’s election process. This would be Gandhi’s fourth term as Congress president after she first became the party head in 1998. The party’s organisational elections have been under way for quite some time now.

The delegates of the state units will meet in the respective state capitals from September 12 to 17 to elect the state unit chiefs of the party, Dwivedi said. All the states will adopt a one-line resolution authorising the elected Congress president to nominate the state unit presidents, and after that the organisational set-up would be revamped, he said.
