Soumya’s death in Thrissur:Remand period of accused extended  

Thrissur, Tuesday, April 19, 2011: The Thrissur Magistrate Court today extended the remand period of Govinda Swamy, the accused in connection with the death of Soumya in Thrissur. The remand period was extended for fourteen days.

Govinda Swami, the accused entered the women’s compartment of the train, in which the victim, Soumya was traveling alone from the Vallathol Nagar railway station. The Police said that Govinda Swami tried to nab the woman’s bag. The woman resisted the attack and ran to the end of the compartment to escape him.

Govinda Swami pushed her out of the train and she fell down with her head banging on the rock. He also jumped out of the train, along with her and raped the severely injured woman.

The Wadakancherry First Class Judicial Magistrate Court had remanded Govinda Swami in judicial custody till February 17. Govinda Swami has been charged under IPC sections 307 (attempt to murder) and 326 (voluntarily causing grievous hurt by dangerous weapons or means), Police said.

Soumya had died at a private hospital in Thrissur on Feb 6th.
