SSLC examinations to begin today  

Thiruvananthapuram, Monday, March 14, 2011: More than four-and-a-half lakh students are scheduled to appear for the SSLC examinations which will be held from today to March 26.

These examinations will be held in 2,732 centres in the State, the Gulf countries (11) and in the Lakshadweep (9). Compared to last year’s figures, 8,721 more students will write the examinations this year.
While 4,58,887 regular candidates are expected to appear for the SSLC examinations the number of private candidates is 4,752. The number of girl candidates is 2,30,234.

The revenue district which will host the highest number of students is Malappuram, with 72,556 students. The lowest figure is for Wayanad revenue district, 11,069. While 511 students will report at the Gulf centres, 1,055 will report for the examinations at the centres in the Lakshadweep.

Among the education districts Tirur will host the maximum number of students — 34,927 and Kuttanad, the least — 2,442. The single largest contingent of students, 1,401, will write the examinations from the St. Mary’s Higher Secondary School, Pattom and the second largest, 1,008, from the Pookkoya Thangal Memorial Higher Secondary School, Kottukara.

In the Jayabi English medium school, Kannur, only three students will write the SSLC examination this year. The will deploy 23,400 teachers State-wide for invigilation duty.

The question papers have already been despatched to nationalised banks and treasuries for safe custody. They will be brought to the respective schools on the day of the examination.

This year the evaluation work would be done in 54 camps across the State, 13 more than last year. There will be two special camps in each zone for the evaluation of answer sheets of English, Social Sciences and Maths.

There will be two camps each for the evaluation of the answer sheets of the Arabic, Urdu and Sanskrit examinations. The camps will be held from April 1 to 9 and from April 16 to 20, according to a press note issued here.
