Kozhikode, Tuesday15 June2010: Industries Minister Elamaram Karim has said that the LDF government has given clear proof of its commitment to support the working class by taking over the sick Comtrust, Alind and Travancore Rayons industrial units.
‘‘The government will not remain a silent spectator if the managements of private companies push their workers to poverty by stopping production and making their factories unviable. This is the message the government wanted to convey by taking over Comtrust, Travancore Rayons and Alind,” Karim said.
The Minister said the LDF government alone was trying to encourage public sector undertakings (PSUs); the Union government had been disinvesting its share even in highly profitable ‘Navaratna PSUs.’
Other State governments were making only token gestures to encourage PSUs; the LDF government, on the other hand, had decided to launch eight new PSUs including the tools-cum-training centre.
