Strike: TN govt warns of stringent action  

Chennai, Monday 06 September 2010: Tamil Nadu government today warned of stringent action against persons trying to disturb law and order during a nation-wide strike called for by different trade unions tomorrow to press for various demands.

“Police and other district authorities have been instructed to initiate stringent action against persons trying to disturb law and order and public peace during the strike, a release said here.

“Authorities have been instructed to ensure smooth functioning of public transport and supply of essential goods like water and milk. Action would be initiated against those trying to prevent others from going to work,” it said.

A review meeting to discuss the matter was held here on Saturday under Chief Secretary S Malathi, the release said.

Various trade unions have called for a nation-wide strike against price rise, privatisation of public sector undertakings and withdrawal of new pension scheme.
