Surendran Pillai to take over as Minister on Tuesday   Surendran

Thiruvananthapuram, Friday, July 30, 2010: The CPM State secretariat meeting has dispersed without deciding on the portfolio for V. Surendran Pillai. But it has been decided that Surendran Pillai would take oath on Tuesday. However, reports say that CPM State secretariat has decided not to give PWD portfolio for Surendran Pillai, which was earlier handled by his Kerala Congress predecessors P J Joseph, T U Kuruvila and Mons Joseph.

As per the reports V. Surendran Pillai is most likely to get the Social welfare portfolio, currently held by Minister P.K Sreemathy. Though the Kerala Congress (Joseph) was handling the PWD portfolio, the CPI (M) leadership has already expressed their reservations on parting with the portfolio.

The P.C Thomas faction has been provided with a minister post as a gratitude for remaining with the LDF, even after PJ Joseph walked away. A decision on the date of swearing-in would also be taken today. Although the CPM Secretariat meeting started at morning 10am and continued till 6 pm no final decision was taken.

The decision to provide Cabinet berth for V. Surendran Pillai was taken in the LDF meeting held earlier.
