Thiruvananthapuram, Wednesday, September 16, 2009: Health Minister PK Sreemathi has offered to conduct more talks with the KGMCTA representatives today. Minister said, once the strike is abandoned the government will go ahead with discussions on pending issues with the medical teachers. The non-corporation strike going on now should not prove fatal for patients Minister said.
But if the strike is continuing then the government will consider taking tough measures to combat the strike.
PK Sreemathi also added that, the government would soon start counseling centers at two hundred higher secondary schools to prevent suicide among students.
The talks scheduled for today was abandoned after a section of doctors (head of departments) stayed away from an official meeting called by Health Secretary (Medical Education) Usha Titus to discuss the shifting of the Alappuzha Medical College to Vandanam.
According to Health Department sources, the doctors stayed away from the meeting on a directive from the Alappuzha unit of the Kerala Government Medical College Teachers’ Association (KGMCTA).
