A day after 16 co-ordinated serial blasts ripped apart Gujarat’s commercial capital Ahmedabad, terror continued to haunt the state’s people on Sunday. The bomb disposal squad defused two live bombs today, one each in Ahmedabad and Surat. While the first live bomb was recovered from a garbage bin in Ahmedabad’s Hatkeshwar area, the second was defused in Surat’s Citylite area, near Nupur Hospital. Both the bombs are reported to have been fitted with a timer device.
Some reports suggested that two live bombs were also recovered in Ahmedabad’s Maninagar, which is Chief Minister Narendra Modi’s constituency. The death toll in Saturday’s blasts has meanwhile risen to 45, with 162 others injured.
The Army staged a flag march in the sensitive old city area this morning in the wake of the bombings.
The blasts in Ahmedabad took place a day after the country’s IT capital, Bangalore was rocked by similar low-intensity serial blasts, in which two people were killed and several others were injured.
Ahmedabad police’s Crime Branch, which is investigating the deadly blasts, has detained around 30 people in connection with the terror attack. Among those detained are two bicycle vendors. The police is also questioning four witnesses.
