Lorry drivers’ strike at IOC begins

Kozhikode, Friday, 16 July 2010: A group of tanker lorry drivers began a token strike at Irumbanam unit of Indian Oil Corporation (IOC), here today morning. The dealer lorry drivers turned up for a protest following the denial of renewal of contract for the more than 90 dealer lorries.

A notice regarding the strike had been handed over to the IOC authorities and District Collector by the Tanker Lorry Workers Union (CITU) against the non-renewal. The decision of the protesting group is to move for an indefinite strike if their demands failed to be met.

However, the strike had duly affected the fuel transportation as the dealer lorry drivers were to transport petrol, diesel to the private pumps.
