Thiruvananthapuram, Saturday, February 12, 2011: Prime Minister Manmohan Singh today had a first hand knowledge on different stages of the operation of Country’s prestigious supersonic cruise missile ‘BrahMos’ during his brief visit to the BrahMos Aerospace unit here.
Singh along with Defence Minister A K Antony went round the BrahMos missile plant and showed keen interest on the missile integration procedures, an official at the BrahMos Aerospace said.
‘Singh sought to know the various process of missile assembling and also the expansion programs of BrahMos Aerospace, the official said. He also exchanged pleasantries with the workers at the plant.
The Company CEO and Managing Director A Sivathanu Pillai explained to Singh the functioning of different sections in the unit. Singh was also presented with a computer simulation on missile launch and other functions of the Unit, the official said.
State Chief Minister V S Achuthanandan was also present during Prime Minister’s visit to the BrahMos Aerospace Unit, an Indo-Russian joint venture. BrahMos cruise missiles with a range of 290 km are considered to be the faster now available in the world.
