Thiruvananthapuram, Friday, January 08, 2010: High volt drama was witnessed in the Vattiyoorkavu Panchayat meet yesterday, after women belonging to around four hundred ‘Kudumbasree units working here’ alleged that some CDS officials had gulped down huge amount.

According to the women, who were working in the Kudumasree units the amount estimated to be around 12 lakhs , were supposed to be remitted to various banks as loan interests was diverted by officials.

The amount was taken on loan basis from various banks for small ventures through CDS. The misappropriation came to light when the women received bank notice asking them to remit interests.

Yesterday’s panchayat meet was dominated by uproar after BJP members of the panchayat demanded a vigilance inquiry into the misappropriation, which the CPM members opposed. The panchayat governing body is ruled by CPM.

The Panchayt president informed that, the auditing is still to be completed and only once the auditing is over a clear picture could be defined. She also promised to take strong action once fraud is revealed.
