SEC functioning not satisfactory, alleges UDF   SEC

Thiruvananthapuram, Tuesday 29 June 2010: The UDF came down heavily on the State Election Commissioner (SEC) “for his failure to infuse transparency in the pre-election process of ward delimitation and preparation of voters’ list.

” The Opposition coalition also wanted the SEC to convene an all-party meeting to sort out issues related to these two issues before taking a final decision.

Addressing a press conference here, convener P.P. Thankachan said the functioning of the SEC was unsatisfactory and he was functioning at the directive of the CPM.

There was no clarity in the orders issued by the SEC from time to time. It was hard to believe the SEC’s statement that the voters’ list would be published by July 1. “We fail to understand how this can be done without finalising the ward delimitation in panchayats. We suspect that these are being prepared by some external agencies,” Thankachan said.
