Thiruvananthapuram, Sunday 07 February 2010: The UDF protested against the alleged encroachment on the property of Shreyams Kumar, MLA, by a group of tribal people in Wayanad.
In a statement here, UDF convener P.P. Thankachan said the encroachment with the support of the CPM Wayanad district leadership was the outcome of political vendetta and had been carried out using the political and administrative influence of the ruling party on the police and the officials.
He said that Shreyams Kumar had received the 14 acres of land in Krishnagiri from his father M.P. Veerendrakumar. The land had been given to Shreyams Kumar’s grandfather by the erstwhile Madras government in 1942 for agriculture purposes.
The CPM or any individual do not have the right to occupy the land. Thankachan wanted the State government to disassociate itself from the action of the CPM district leadership and take immediate action to evict the encroachers.
