New Delhi, Tuesday 27 July 2010: Union Minister of Shipping G. K. Vasan today informed the Lok Sabha that the first phase of the Vallarpadam International container terminal will be commissioned in October.

In his reply to a question by K P Dhanapalan MP, the Minister said that 95% construction work has already been completed.

With the commissioning of the container terminal, it will pave way for opening up of many terminal-related industries like container goods stations, depots, special economic zones centering ports, inland waterways, logistic and storage centers.
