New Delhi, Tuesday, October 04, 2011: Vivekananda Express, the special exhibition train showcasing the life and philosophy of Swami Vivekananda, will arrive here at Delhi Cantonment station on October 7.
The exhibition train was launched on January this year by the then Railway Minister Mamata Banerjee on the eve of 150th birth centenary of Swami Vivekananda.
“The train was launched from Howrah with a view to disseminate Swami’s legacy to the younger generations by the Railways,”said a senior Northern Railway official.
The train exhibition throws light on the life and achievements of Swami Vivekananda and has six coaches in which photographs, write-ups and other exhibits are on display. Two other coaches contain rare photographs and archival material.
Black and white images of Vivekananda’s brothers, Mahendranath Dutta and Bhupendranath Dutta, his ancestral house, a grand reception hosted for him in 1897 in what was then Calcutta and the disciples of Sri Ramakrishna Paramhansa soon after his demise are among those on display.”Vivekananda’s signatures and some of his sayings are also on display,”said the official, adding”the train is coming from Durgapur and will remain at Delhi Cantonment for four days till October 10.” T
hereafter, the exhibition train will halt at Patel Nagar station for four days and then move to Pragati Maidan and Safdarjung stations for four days each respectively before leaving for Panipat on October 22.
The train will also go to Raebareli, Amethi, Haridwar and Jammu before ending its year-long journey at Varanasi on January 2012.
