Thiruvananthapuram, Wednesday, October 14, 2009: The Cabinet has decided to go ahead with the construction of container port terminal at Vizhinjam from November.
Speaking to the media after the cabinet session, Chief Minister VS Achuthanandan said that Rs. 450 crores would be spent during the first phase of the project. The transport and basic facilities for the project would be facilitated through VISL, international port company.
Minister added that the first phase would be completed within eighteen months. The cabinet has decided to establish the project in three phases. Private partnership would be enabled through international bid by November 2010, Minister pointed out.
Cabinet gave recognition to 65 proposals for development in the sports sector. Proposals to include sports in the regular curriculum and to start a sports university have got recognition. Decision has also been taken to grant an aid of one crore each to Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh in the wake of natural calamities.
