Thiruvananthapuram, Wednesday, July 20, 2011: The Opposition LDF members boycotted the Assembly proceedings today to register their protest against the delay caused when the voting was called for enactment of the finance appropriation bill.
The assembly witnessed some dramatic scenes following the verbal dispute between the ruling front and the opposition over passing of the finance bill when Speaker G Karthikeyan called for vote on account.
Opposition leader VS Achuthanandan lashed out at the UDF government terming that they had shown defiance by delaying the voting procedures. VS pointed out that the government lacked majority and that was the reason for delay in voting.
Deputy leader of Opposition Kodiyeri Balakrishnan said that the government had no right to continue in power since they lacked majority in the finance bill.
Meanwhile Speaker G Karthikeyan today denied permission to table the alternative white paper by former minister Thomas Isaac in the Assembly.
Karthikeyan pointed out that permission of the Chair was required to table unofficial documents in the Assembly. The Assembly witnessed noisy scenes after the Opposition members protested against the Speaker’s decision to deny permission for the LDF’s alternate White Paper.
