Protests continue in Kerala over Mullaperiyar   Protests

Thiruvananthapuram, Monday, November 28, 2011: A group of Mahila Congress activists, Thiruvananthapuram District Committee today took out a protest march to Secretariat demanding Central intervention to resolve the Mullaperiyar issue and ensure the safety of people.

Protesters burned Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Jayalalitha’s effigy. The SFI activists also took out a protest march to Secretariat.

Political parties and voluntary groups in Kerala on Tuesday continued protests and lobbied for a new dam at Mullaperiyar amid indications that would convene a meeting of chief ministers of Tamil Nadu and Kerala to find an amicable solution to the vexed issue.

Opposition CPM-led LDF decided to mobilise thousands of activists and supporters to forge a ‘human wall’ from Mullaperiyar to Kochi on December 8 to highlight the people’s concern over the threat posed by the dam.
