Thiruvananthapuram, Monday, 1 March 2010: Women’s Commission initiated their 1 yearlong campaign against dowry and luxurious marriage. Chief Minister V.S Achuthananthan inaugurated the function today.

Kerala is a land of mothers whose sleep is lost due to their inability to give dowry, said CM. Since the rights on property of parents is equal for both boys and girls, asking the share of property of girls before marriage is absurdity.

Even though party leaders raise their voice against the dowry system, they often forget this and show gluttony when their own case comes. The students and youth organizations should fight against dowry system, said Chief Minister.

He also praised the grand daughter of Raja Ravi Varma, who had invited only 25 members and made her wedding function that simple. Ministers P.K Sreemathi, M. Vijayakumar, Binoy Viswam, Women’s Commission president Justice D. Sreedevi also attended the function.
