World Bank aid for strengthening 47 dams in State  

New Delhi, Tuesday 01 June 2010: Kerala government today reached an agreement with the World Bank for strengthening the dams in the state. The aid comes under the central government scheme for dam rehabilitation and improvement.

According to the agreement the state government will get loan for 211.7 crore rupees. All the 47 dams in the state except, Mullapperiyar dam, which stands in Tamil Nadu comes under this project.

28 of these dams are under KSEB and 19 under irrigation department. The project should be implemented within six years. 30 years of time would be available to re-pay the debt. The loan is at a rate of interest would be 0.87 which would change according to the value of dollar in international market.
