Thrissur, Wednesday 2 February 2011: A 23-year-old woman is battling for her life after she jumped from a running train to escape molestation bid by a man who entered the woman’s compartment of the Ernakulam-Shornur passenger train, police said.

The woman was found lying unconscious on the rail tracks with serious head injuries in between Vallathol Nagar and Shornur Railway station at 2130 hours last night, police said. Police said a man entered the near empty compartment and tried to molest her.

The girl, sowmya, cried out for help, but none helped her following which she is suspected to have jumped from the train. Police is also verifying if she jumped or was pushed out from the running train by the man, who got into the compartment at the Vallathol Nagar station when it halted there.

Sowmya was employed at Kochi in a private firm and was on her way to home at Manjakad near Shornur. Her brother said his sister cried out for help, but no one came to help her. Sowmya was coming home in connection with a marriage proposal, he said.

Police said that she was still unconscious and in the ICU of the Government Medical College Hospital at nearby Mulamkunnathukavu.

When contacted, the Vallathol Nagar Railway Station sources said the woman was found lying in a pool of blood with multiple injuries in an unconscious state from 400 meters away from the station late last night. She was immediately rushed to the Government medical college hospital at Mulangunnathukavu, the sources added.
