Alappuzha, Friday, 06 August 2010: The right hand of a 24-year-old man was seriously hacked by a gang of miscreants allegedly to wreak revenge for his qustioning one of them for teasing his cousin sister some time back near Cengannur in the district

Abhilash, an autorickshaw driver, was waylaid and attacked by the gang on Wedenseday night. Some of his relatives, including three women, were also injured in the attack, police said.

Abhilash was admitted to hospital with his forearm nearly cut off, which was later restored through an operation at the Medical College Hospital.

Police dismissed political motive behind the crime.

According to police, Abhilash incurred the wrath of one of those in the gang for making teasing comments at his sister a few weeks back. This was suspected to be the motive behind the attack on Abhilash and his relatives who were going in the autorickshaw. The gang first smashed the glass window of the vehicle and then pulled out Abhilash and hacked his right hand with a sharp sword, police said.
