Vithura, Saturday, October 29, 2011: The police team headed by Thiruvananthapuram rural Narcotic DySP, investigating the case in which a 23-year-old youth (Sinu) committed suicide after alleged police torture here, has recorded the statements of the victim’s family.

The victim’s family demanded stringent action against those involved in the brutal incident. Meanwhile the State (SHRC) has registered a suo motu case in connection with the incident.

The case has been registered based on the media reports about the incident. Two police officers of Vithura police station identified as Sub-Inspector Rajesh and ASI Jayakumar have been suspended.

According to the victim’s family Sinu and his friend were taken into police custody while they were bursting crackers after closing his shop at 7 pm on Tuesday night. When the two were released on bail, Sinu complained that the Vithura police had tortured him in custody and that he was deeply depressed which made him to commit suicide.

Sinu was found hanging in his bedroom, sources said. As a protest against this incident the local residents of Theviyodu junction observed a hartal in the area.
