Aravane Rezai wins Swedish Open

aravane-rezai

Aravane Rezai claimed the Swedish Open title with a hard-fought 6-3 4-6 6-4 victory over Gisela Dulko.

The 23-year-old Rezai, who had lost her two previous meetings against the Argentinian, started strongly, breaking Dulko in the fifth game and taking the set easily.

Dulko hit back in the second, breaking Rezai’s serve early on, but did not have it all her own way as the Frenchwoman broke back before going down 6-4.

However, Rezai turned it up a notch in the final set, taking a 4-0 lead from which Dulko could not recover.

“It was a very difficult match but at the end I showed I could win these matches and these tournaments,” said Rezai, who claimed her fourth WTA title with her fourth straight final victory.

“Gisela kept fighting and showed she can run anything down. She had her tactics, I had my tactics, and it was a great match.

“I was just trying to show my best tennis. Each one of my titles is different. They all mean a lot to me. This week I proved I could be very consistent and that I’m on the right path.”
