With Zaheer Khan is out of the Test series against Sri Lanka with a shoulder injury, the onus of leading the Indian pace attack will be on S. Sreesanth.
The Kerala paceman, who made a good comeback against Sri Lanka in Kanpur last year, feels that he will be up for it once again.
“Zaheer is a great bowler and we always need him in the team, but injury is part of the game. We are going to miss him immensely. But the show has to go on and this is an important series for us. I’m aware of my responsibility and I hope to deliver my best against Sri Lanka and all I want now is to win the series for my country.” Sree told.
He will fly for Sri Lanka on Friday along with his team members for the three-Test series which starts on from July 18.
Sri Lanka had a forgettable Test campaign against India in November last year but Kumar Sangakkara’s boys are dangerous customers at their own backyard. It’s common knowledge that they will come all guns blazing to avenge their 0-2 loss just a few months back.
“We are not unnecessarily worried. We’ve played good cricket for some time now and things won’t be different against Lanka. No one had gifted us the No. 1 spot, we had to achieve it. Sri Lanka are a great side on home soil and we respect them a lot. But we’ve the resources. So you can expect to good, competitive series,” the 27-year-old pacer added.
Sree, who loves to generate high pace, has been working hard to that end. “I love speed and I will be happy if I can bowl fast. Let’s see.” he said.
