Roger Federer has dropped out of the top two in the world rankings for the first time in almost seven years.
Federer’s shock quarter-final defeat at Wimbledon has resulted in the Swiss dropping to third on the ATP list, behind both Rafael Nadal and Novak Djokovic.
It is the first time since November 2003 that Federer has been ranked outside the world’s top two and he remains one week short of Pete Sampras’ all-time record of 286 weeks as world number one.
Wimbledon champion Nadal stretched his lead at the top to nearly 4,000 points after picking up 2,000 for his victory in SW19.
His final victim, Tomas Berdych, the man who ousted Federer, moves up to a career-high position of eighth, while British star Andy Murray remains fourth.
In the women’s rankings, Serena Williams remains top of the pile after her Wimbledon triumph.
Runner-up Vera Zvonareva is back in the top 10 after her impressive run to the final in SW19 - she is now ninth on the list, up from 21st.
Beaten semi-finalists Petra Kvitova (29th from 62nd) and Tsvetana Pironkova (35th from 82nd) both enjoy big rises, while Sam Stosur moves into the top five for the first time.
British number one Elena Baltacha drops five places to 57th following her first-round defeat at the All England Club.
