The ICC confirmed Dinesh Karthik as the replacement for an injured Virender Sehwag in India’s ICC World T20 squad.
The ICC Event Technical Committee also approved Aaron Redmond as a replacement player for Jesse Ryder in the New Zealand squad.
Karthik takes over from Sehwag who has not recovered from an injury to his right shoulder that ended his Twenty20 World Cup campaign without playing a single match.
The BCCI submitted physician’s report instead of a doctor’s to seek a replacement for Sehwag, who has been ruled out of the T20 World Cup because of a shoulder injury.
But the ICC has made it clear that it will clear Karthik’s name only after receiving a doctor’s report citing Sehwag’s injury, it has been learnt.
Sehwag carried a Grade I shoulder injury to England and missed the warm-up games as well as the lung opener against Bangladesh on June 6 and was ruled out from the tournament on Tuesday.
Sehwag had suffered the injury during the IPL’s semi-final clash against Deccan Chargers in South Africa on May 21.
