Sri Lanka beat Ireland by 9 runs

Sri Lanka beat Ireland in a closely fought contest in the Super Eights clash between the two teams at Lord’s on Sunday.

Ireland have got off to a solid start against Sri Lanka, in pursuit of a probable win in their Super Eights clash.

Muttaih Muralitharan got rid of the dangerous William Porterfield, after he played a great hand at the top of the order.

Andre Botha also perished as did Kevin O’Brien to give Sri Lanka a gimmer of hope.

Lasith Malinga dealt the death blow on the Irish, snapping up two wickets off two deliveries.

Sri Lanka are 144 for nine

A brilliant four wicket haul by Alex Cusack restricted Sri Lanka to a modest total against Ireland in their Super Eights clash at Lord’s.

Boyd Rankin has struck with the first delivery of the match, snapping up Tillekaratne Dilshan. The Irish get going.

Sri Lanka have lost Sanath Jayasuriya and Chamara Silva in quick succession but Mahela Jayawardene has kept the ball rolling with a well compiled half-century.

What a big blow this is! Trent Johnston has sent back Sri Lankan skipper Kumara Sangakkara, thanks to a brilliant catch by Neil O’Brien.
