Mumbai asserted their supremacy by thrashing Uttar Pradesh by a huge 243-run margin and clinching the Ranji Trophy cricket title for a record 38th time in Hyderabad . This win reaffirms their reputation as one of the most dominant domestic first-class sides - they have won over half the 75 editions of the tournament.
Needing an improbable 525 to win the match on the last day, Uttar Pradesh folded up for 281 in 71.5 overs. Dhawal Kulkarni claimed five wickets for 76 while spinner Ramesh Powar chipped in with three wickets.
Mumbai had scored 402 and extended their 177-run first innings score with a big second-innings score of 367.
Earlier, Rohit Sharma joined the elite club of players who have scored centuries in both innings of a Ranji Trophy final. Zaheer Khan was the top of the bowlers, as he took 8 wickets in the match.
Uttar Pradesh, captained by former Test batsman Mohammad Kaif, had also lost last year’s final to Virender Sehwag’s Delhi.
