Somdev Devvarman has withdrawn from the singles event of the USD 50,000 ATP Challenger tournament in Champaign, United States, due to a shoulder problem.
Somdev was seeded sixth in the tournament, which began on Monday, and has been replaced by lucky loser Cecil Mamiit of Philippines.
Now Indian challenge remains only in the doubles event with Harsh Mankad and Purav Raja participating with their respective partners.
Harsh and his partner Treat Coard Huey of Philippines are seeded second while Purav and British Richard Bloomfield are unseeded
Soderling was the first alternate for the world’s biggest indoor tennis tournament.
The big-hitting Swede reached his first grand slam final at the French Open
this year after also becoming the first player to beat Rafael Nadal at Roland Garros.
The draw for the finals will be held on Wednesday.
