The striker enjoyed a positive relationship with the former Argentina coach and was hailed by the latter as the ‘People’s player’ for his uncompromising performances for the Albiceleste.
Speaking to TyC Sports from the team’s base in Dublin, the Manchester City player accused Grondona for going back on his word and betraying the players.
He said: “I am one of the people who always supported him, and for that reason I am taking Maradona’s side.
“Grondona did not keep his word. In the dressing room Don Julio said to Diego that he was going to continue. And if we have a meeting and I can say that to his face, I will.”
Tevez also admitted Maradona’s departure has done Argentina football great damage but insisted the players are committed to representing the nation regardless of who is in charge.
“Us players continue wanting to play for la Seleccion, but the things that have happened have done great harm to Argentine football.
“It is sad to arrive and see things as they currently are. But la Seleccion comes before anything, before the players and Grondona,” he added.
