Warne hopes for Symonds’ speedy return to team

London, Thursday 11 June 2009: Australia spin legend Shane Warne blasted Andrew Symonds for getting himself involved into yet another controversy but hoped the temperamental all-rounder would return to the national squad soon.

Symonds was accused of being involved in an alcohol related incident and sent back from the Twenty20 World Cup in England.

“The situation with Symonds is very bad. It seems that playing for Australia is not as important to him as it once was. He has let himself and everyone else down,” said the leg-spinner.

However, he hoped the all-rounder would put his troubles behind and make a triumphant return to the national team.

“But I hope this is not the end for him because he is such a talent,” Warne said.

The legendary bowler, meanwhile, is happy to see the growing influence of spinners in Twenty20 cricket, which is often considered to be a batsmen’s game, and feels failure to tackle the slow bowlers was one of the reasons behind Australia’s early exit from the ongoing World Cup.

“I’ve been pleased to see the influence of spin in the competition and thought that Australia should have gone with Nathan Hauritz against the West Indies,” he said.
