Your Guest Room

When choosing what to have in your guest bedroom, try not to go too over the top by focusing on the essentials and stick to the basics of which you can build around to make a comfortable room in which your guest will want to stay.

A comfortable bed is a good place to start. Besides picking a large bed with a high-quality mattress and fresh bed linen the overall appearance mainly comes from its style. Fashion the bed into the room either through its design or colour and as it’s the centerpiece and the furnishing that will be of highest interest to your guest, give it some attention and detail (small pillows, throws etc).

A chest of drawers is among the many essentials when designing your room and a must have for your guest/guests. Keep it plain and possibly in tone with the colours of the bed and don’t clutter it with flowers, pictures, or ornaments as your guest may need the surface for their own belongings. Also choose a piece that has at least two or three draws.

Your guest belongings will need a place to stay other than two small drawers so make sure a wardrobe or luggage rack is available. This way your guests will not feel like they are living out of their bags and the room will feel less cluttered and tidy as well as brighter.

With luggage racks they can also store the empty bags and can be folded or put away when not used.

A bright airy room is always a favourite among guest’s rooms and lighting is essential to make the room feel homely and safe. Lighting by the bed and on the chest of drawers beside the bed is a good idea but little extra touches such as nightlights for safety and characterized lighting can also be beneficial to young children or the elderly.

After the essentials have been placed in the room, its time to give the space an extra personal touch to make your guests feel at home. A cozy chair is one suggestion for your visitors to have some private time such as reading, relaxing or resting as not everyone wants just a bed for somewhere to sit.

Other things could be a room separator, small table or desk, dressing table, mirrors and perhaps a television. But this all of course depends on the size of the room you are willing to decorate.
