The only thing all the pregnant ladies want is to have healthy pregnancy and thus a healthy baby. Pregnant women take care of them and even their family members take care of them so as to ensure that no complications occur with the pregnancy. If you have a healthy pregnancy, you can be sure about the health of your baby. Pregnancy is a long period of nine months and the first three and the last three months that is the first trimester and the third trimester are the most crucial period of pregnancy. In order to ensure healthy pregnancy you have to take good care during pregnancy mainly in these six months.
To have a healthy pregnancy the most important factor is healthy food. If like many other pregnant women you too are worried about what to eat and what not to eat then here is some help for you that will make sure that you and the growing baby in your womb both get sufficient vitamins and other nutrition. As you know that a baby is growing inside you, you have to take about 300 extra calories per day. Your diet should provide you folic acid, iron, calcium, vitamin D, zinc and vitamin C. If you will eat balanced food then you will surely have healthy pregnancy.
* Folic Acid – Peas, beans, spinach, broccoli, oranges lentils, whole grains and lettuce are good source of folic acid. The requirement of folic acid is so much that the doctor will also give you supplements of folic acid and you have to take it daily without forgetting. Only food is insufficient to fulfill the requirement of folic acid in your body during pregnancy.
* Iron – Fish and poultry products is a great source of iron along with meat and eggs. In the third trimester your baby also starts taking iron from your body and thus your body’s iron requirements are more during the last three months of your pregnancy. If you will not get required amount of iron either you or your baby or both will become anemic.
* Calcium – Milk, yogurt, cheese, crackers and cereals are good source of calcium. Your daily requirement of calcium is about 1300 mg. Your doctor will also give you calcium and iron tablets to fulfill the calcium and iron requirements of your body.
* Vitamin D – Both calcium and vitamin D are very important nutrients for you and the baby, as it will form the strong bones and teeth in your baby. You will also have healthy bones and teeth. Vitamin D is present in almost all dairy products like milk, cheese and yogurt.
* Zinc – While grain products, meat, fish, oysters, beans, nuts are all good source of zinc. Cell division and the tissue growth in baby mainly depends on the zinc, hence make sure that you take about 11 mg zinc per day.
* Vitamin C – Lemon, oranges, watermelon, papaya, grapes, cabbage, strawberries, broccoli, tomatoes, mango, citrus juices and kiwi all are good source of vitamin C. If you will take about 85 mg of vitamin C per day, it will reduce your chances of having premature birth.
